Design as Innovation

The design approach and design research are key elements of successful innovative processes.
Creatively engaged in creating the future the designer collaborates with users as well as stakeholders in the client organization to deliver the best and most appropriate product, service or system to fulfill the needs and desires of the market.

Collective Intelligence in the creative process

Just like no man is an island no product can be created be one person. Based on a thorough design research and a shared knowledge of the current situation, a process that engages the collective intelligence of the entire developmental team as well as its closest neighbors is needed to reach the best possible solution.
Collective intelligence is often only engaged in isolated brain storming sessions, but can just as well be utilized through the entire developmental process through personal and organizational practices as well as supporting technologies like web 2.0 platforms.

The Social Product

When is a product deeply meaningful to its users and buyers? On the internet we currently see a spurring of social product and services that link and connect us in new ways and for new purposes. Or actually the purpose is ancient: As a social beast human beings have always had a desire to both stand out and be part of a social context at the same time. How do we as designers develop product that can fit this desire and how can we develop platforms that enable new social patterns to emerge and possibly novel social actions to impact the world.

Martin hired by 3Part

Aug 1st, 2007 and tagged in General

I am now working at 3Part as interaction designer. It turned out to be too difficult to start MVL as a design consultancy, so instead I am joining the team at 3Part A/S, a product design consultancy in Århus, Denmark.

Reboot and Collective intelligence

Jun 21st, 2007 and tagged in General

I attend Reboot 9.0 in Copenhagen last week. Here I gave a talk with George Por and with the help of Yann Mauchamp. We were pushing the idea of collective intelligence as a perspective in the current web 2.0 hyper-drive.

Collective Intelligence Reboot

The audience response was very good even if we got the last slot at the last day. George, Yann and I are currently working to make the presentation even better and planning to go to one of the next European conferences; LIFT, Picnnic, SHIFT etc.

Jun 15th, 2007 and tagged in General

Hey ho. I became a doctor of Design the other day. I have been so busy lately that I have forgotten to post about it in the news.

Yes, I am now Martin Ludvigsen, PhD - specialized in interaction design and "Designing for Social Interaction". I am still considering putting the dissertation online, but I am trying to get a publisher to look my way - can I do both?

Defending PhD dissertation

Apr 19th, 2007 and tagged in General

This coming Wednesday I am defending my PhD dissertation "Designing for Social Interaction" at the School of Architecture in Aarhus, DK. It is at 13 o'clock and it is open to the public.

The Dissertation is the culmination of three years of research-through-design exploring how designers can facilitate different forms of social interaction around and through technology. Furthermore the dissertation goes into describing how research-through-design is a valid format of scientific inquiry.

New website designed

Feb 16th, 2007 and tagged in General

A new website for MVL.dk is in the progress of development. This now has to shift from the current personal website to the professional front and knowledge base of a company. The company is still only myself until now, but it might grow and I need to separate the personal and PhD-student content form that of a professional consultancy.

However whatever takes place in MVL.dk is highly personal to me as the mission of creating Meaningful Visions for Life is impossible discern from my own mission. Becoming a commercial entity, however, requires a different way of presenting oneself.
